I’ve always liked Guy Sebastian. He’s a great singer, and conducts himself in a dignified, humble manner as a public figure. I imagine that, ‘up close and personal’, he’d have feet of clay just like the rest of us, maybe tempted by other women than his wife, maybe not so religious as when he first became famous.
I like him, but I don’t like the name of the television show that he won back then - Australian Idol. We were being told to idolise the winner, and I thought, but didn’t God tell us not to do that? Can’t we just like them and buy their records, isn’t that more reasonable?
Guy Sebastian is a ‘star’ in Australia. I’m unlikely ever to meet him, especially not to get to know him, and his faults in any depth. So it would be easy to idolise him. Absence, as they say, makes the heart grow fonder. Maybe.
Except, if you listen to his lyrics, he gives his human frailties away. His temptations are evident, bad language creeping in, and not often enough concentration on bigger issues than personal love and physical attraction. It does require more than a cursory listen, though, to hear it, and it does require more than blind , stubborn devotion. (He is pretty darned good. )
To repeat, to follow a leader requires more than blind stubborn devotion. A follower’s brain should not shut off when contemplating it’s focus. So what do you do when you find your idol has feet of clay? Well, you could point it out to them. You could point it out to the public. You could replace that idol with another, though that seems just as problematic.
Or you could cease worshipping idols. Do you know that actual stars are balls of burning plasma? Basically, hot air, like hydrogen. The more scientists study them, the more they know that stars aren’t supernatural deities. They have discovered a great deal, for example that the bigger, brighter stars burn out more quickly. The smaller, low burning ones go on for trillions of years longer in many instances.
Some news came out this week, that what some starry eyed followers suggested were alien megastructures floating in front of one far off star, Tabby’s Star, are in reality just dust. Another myth dispelled. Where did the focus come from ? A whole bunch of telescopes all over the world, working together.

Much like the implosion that’s going on in the US White House this week in the Trump administration.
Bannon and others got out of Trump’s orbit and rubbed the starlight out of their eyes. Bannon is not an alien, as some (particularly the Onion) implied, he is just dust. The dust clears away in places, the star burns out more quickly because it’s big and hot, and we will get to see more clearly what it was made of.
Hopefully before it causes a sequence of nuclear reactions.

CONTROVERSY CORNER - where's our Freedom this Fourth ?
The following opinion and music clip about American politics today is from Kathy.
I hope what I see that is going on will not come to pass. If people make the wrong choices it's all going to go wrong, but I'm hoping we're better than that. I hope our country is better than that. I hope our world is better than that. I hope the good is going to triumph over evil.
Trump has requested voter records from all the states. Even the Republican states have turned him down.

He has threatened them and run ads against some Republicans that don't do his bidding. If they vote against the repeal of Healthcare he runs millions of dollars of negative ads against them. As for the voting records, he is claiming it is because of voting irregularities. I will bet he wants to get rid of Democrat voters by either purging or redistricting. It reminds me of Hitler with the Jews. He wants rid of the dissenters.
He has tried to blackmail a tv news couple now because they are criticizing him. They were having an affair so he exposed them , then he slandered them. Before that he threatened to run a story in National Enquirer about their affair. They came out and revealed they are getting married.
The virgin forests are to be treasured if possible. There are only a few areas left in US that haven't been plundered by greed. Now since Trump is removing regulations for the waterways and government lands there will be a lot more destruction.
They want to mine and drill in the Grand Canyon.
He has reduced monies to protect the Great Lakes or biggest source of fresh water. Ran the pipeline over the fresh water in the Midwest. There is no reason to do what he is doing as there are ways around it but the fast monies are to destroy.
The coal jobs he promised will be few and the safety regulations are gone for the mines now. He essentially gave solar and renewables to China. The Republicans were on Obamas case because he wanted to invest in renewables and they are all paid off by big oil. It disgusts me. They worry about debt for their kids but they don't worry about the environment and the air and water...."
