ANGELS BEAR THEM UP

This goes out in memory of all those in public service who have laid down their lives for the public and been killed in hate crimes.

Must DO now, no more time to think
Time to danger run toward.

Is my kit all with me? Blink!
Where am I, this is not before!

This is fog, is blur, is vague.
There's Mama, friends,
my mentors, there's no dragging lag,
'tis fast!  My fault amends.

Is past.
My fix-ed eye, has passed.

Im always so conflicted about war heroes as I have a really unrealistic viewpoint that if there were no soldiers there could be no wars. In essence it's an absolute truth but I have to concede that it's a childish whim because we still haven't become civilised enough to conduct ourselves without resorting to blowing each other up for god knows how many reasons. It's an eternal feeling of shame that I have about our species.
I'm not sure how I'd feel if I had a son or daughter in the military...... After my astonishment that my witterings hadn't prevented them from joining up in the first place, I guess I'd just have to resign myself to the increased risk of death they'd willingly volunteeered for and live with that and any of the consequences. I hate to say it, but I'm unsure I'd ever be able to take any comfort from their death because they'd been 'serving their country', I'd be too resentful that it was necessary for them to sacrifice themselves in the first place.

It's different for public servants like the police or firemen etc, as their jobs are mainly to protect and save lives, so when their life is taken in the line of duty, it's really is very sad indeed.

I don't think so. I'd like it very much though :)
Thank you.
