MELBOURNE BOUND 1b - heritage streets

This post follows on from our post - Melbourne Bound 1a.

We continued exploring while waiting for our train, in Bourke street.

An hotel, formerly an historic police station:

The photo can't capture how massive and heavy the double doors are:

A sense of the old police station still remains:

Street scenes also in Bourke street:

Acerules sketching in a shopping centre (mall), she wore my leather jacket most of the day:

So we found at the end of the day we had a long wait for our coach home. We wandered into St Paul's Anglican Cathedral, where no photos were allowed without a permit, though I got this one of Acerules sketching the main altar wall. It is a magnificent building. An officiant asked us if we would like to stay for Evensong, which is a mostly sung, prayer service. It was really heavenly music. The choir stalls were facing each other, the choristers were grown adults.  Apparently children sing on different nights. It was a really traditional English service, just beautiful, tucked away from the bustling city streets outside.

A must see, virtual tour of the cathedral

Isn't old architecture great? Looks like a great sketch by Acerules.....architecture is so detailed and not easy to sketch....yes, please ask if she will show us more sketches. The music must have been a real treat.

Yes, "they just don't make them like that anymore". She was frustrated with how hard it was to sketch, but I said look at it as a learning opportunity. Like any skill, the more you practice, the better you get.
